Gibson Firebird V (2015 model)

The Firebird V 2015 features the radical neck-through body design that Gibson made famous in 1963. The neck is made from a nine-piece mahogany and walnut laminate that extends from headstock to end pin, forming the central core of the body to maximize sustain and resonance. The body wings are made from Grade-A Mahogany to complete this sleek design.

Although the Firebird V 2015 visually stays true to auto designer Ray Dietrich's original vision from the early 1960s, this current edition has some cutting edge modern appointments. A quarter-sawn mahogany neck has a wider playing surface while retaining the same string spacing. The bound rosewood fingerboard has 22 medium frets with traditional trapezoid pearl inlays. Gibson has employed a new, thicker slab of rosewood for the fingerboard. The increased mass improves sustain and the board is buffed and oiled for maximum playability. Gibson's comprehensive setup also ensures superior playability and optimum performance.

The original mini-humbuckers have been updated to employ high-output ceramic magnets in place of the Alnico originals. These give a brighter tone and higher-output. The banjo tuners have been replaced with gearless Steinberger 40:1 ratio machine heads for extreme tuning precision.

The nickel hardware on this future classic includes an upgraded Tune-O-Matic bridge with titanium steel saddles and a stopbar tailpiece for stable intonation and silky smooth action and bending.
